Mary Katrantzou x Current/Elliot
The beloved London based Greek designer, Mary Katrantzou, has recently collaborated with the denim label Current/Elliot, which became available on the 28th of March on www.my-wardrobe.com. The collection is joyful, vibrant, urban and is a treat for any fan of print and colour. The prints include various references to travel, some featuring postage stamps and different urban landscapes. A personal favourite was the stiletto cropped diagonal print jeans, which perfectly demonstrated the collaboration between a print designer and a denim label. The trousers are slim cut and simple with a multi-hued denim blue herringbone pattern, which had a modern twist and stayed true to Mary Katrantzou’s image.
For us, the more printed pieces of the collection were a bit of a disappointment. The colours were not as bright as the combinations Mary Katrantzou has displayed before. In addition, the print looked quite awkwardly put together and not very well considered. This collection, in general, did not look like a collaboration between a London Fashion Week designer and a denim label, but more a collaboration of two high street brands. Understood that Mary Katrantzou was attempting to be more street with her print designs. With the denim aspect of the collection she is reaching out to a wider audience. However, this was not a match made in heaven and the garments missed the beloved style of her prints.
