2014 has been an eventful year for fashion, from the heart of the industry to the celebrity culture that helps fuel its momentum. Even in the public domain on the streets, where it’s easy to see the impact of fashion. Now that 2015 is here, it’s time to look back and remember what we did, saw, and wore. Some trends were brand-new, others were back from the past, and a few that had been bubbling up in the last few years really took root and blossomed. Relive 5 of them here and vote for your favorite in the poll below!
No trend ruled the streets in 2014 more than fierce all-denim looks. The most popular of denim-on denim outfits was the chambray button-down and a similar colored jeans combo, which we saw on Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé, Kate Bosworth, Jessica Alba and many, many more. Most celebrities dressed-up the look by pairing the outfit with girly high-heels or color blocked wedges. The denim-on-denim trend is a blast from the past but seems like it’s here to stay!
Cutout dresses have become a huge trend, especially on the red carpet in 2014. We’ve seen everything from a simple keyhole cutout to a sexy side slit. Celebrities took precautions to show just the right amount of skin and left us wanting more.
The minimal bucket bag with its crisp-cut, non-hemmed edges and simple drawstring was the must-have purse among the fashion set in 2014. Not only was it practically bottomless, but it made all the stuff we had to carry look chic and clean. We have Saint Laurent and Mansur Gavriel to thank for that! This trend is sure to be seen in 2015.
Crop Tops made their way to the red carpet in 2014 after years of being worn as casual street wear. This past year, crop tops have been worn as matching sets – with coordinated skirts, pants, shorts, etc. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift have perfected the look and are often spotted wearing crop top sets.
2014 was the year where underwear was worn as an outerwear. Who would have thought it would be so sexy and chic? Celebrities have managed to stun the red carpet with lacy, see-through dresses and skirts worn over their undies.
