When you tell someone you love fashion, you can almost always guarantee you’ll receive one of the follow-up questions: “What’s in style now?” “Where do you shop?” “What blogs do you follow?” After many people have asked the same questions, we realized it comes in handy to have your answers ready, so you can sound just as knowledgeable about the fashion industry as you actually are. Here are a few things you should be knowledgeable about.
1. The designers you love
Whether it’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim at Kenzo or Alexander Wang at Balenciaga, it’s useful to be able to list not only names, but why you like them.
2. When the heck the Resort shows happen, as well as all the other Fashion Weeks
January – Pre-Fall collections show
February/March – Fall/Winter collections show
May – Resort collections show
July – Couture collections show
September/October – Spring/Summer collections show
The four major Fashion Weeks occur in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, in that order.
3. How to actually pronounce designer names. Even Ann Demeulemeester
We hate to break it to you, but you will be judged for mispronouncing a designer’s name.
4. The brands you’d give your first-born to own
Have a few well-known brands in mind, such as Celine, as well as indie brands, like Building Block and Emerson Fry.
5. The coolest fashion bloggers on the block, and by block, we mean world
At this point, we all know The Blonde Salad and Atlantic-Pacific, but here are a few blogs on the rise we think you’ll like: http://www.whowhatwear.com/best-fashion-blogs/slide2
