This month, the quintessential of French sophistication, the maison Dior, opened its first stand-alone boutique in Mexico.
The boutique is located within the recently renovated “El Palacio de Hierro” in Polanco, Mexico City, which is set to become Latin America’s greatest luxury shopping venue. Designed by Peter Merino, its interior takes inspiration from Dior’s flagship boutique located on Avenue Montaigne in Paris. The one floor construction showcases a large assortment of the brand’s range of products, including its ready-to-wear line, accessories, bags and shoes.
Inside the lusciously decorated location, we can find some original works from contemporary artists, specifically commissioned by Dior to reflect the codes of the fashion house. Among the aforementioned pieces we can find a bench by Christopher Schanck and a magnificent video Wall conceived by Oyoram, which serves as a backdrop to the footwear and handbag selections.
Dior’s new retail venue in Mexico provides a unique and modern shopping experience, catering to the needs of the more discerning Mexican consumer of luxury goods. These new breed of consumers are no longer satisfied by shopping in department stores and are willing to spend more for a better overall buying experience. Further, the business move of Dior has been recently followed by other luxury brands as an immediate response to the current increase on the demand for luxury goods in the Mexican market, which only last year grew five times faster than the economy itself – according to Euromonitor International. Mexico has thus become the leading market for luxury goods in Latin America and is expected to maintain a very positive outlook in the upcoming five years.
