Lanvin’s New Artistic Director

Since Alber Elbaz has been ousted from Lanvin, after 14 years of working there, all the fashion lovers were waiting to know who would replace him, in the position of artistic director of the luxury brand.

During Paris fashion week, and Lanvin’s fashion show the attendance was dying to discover who was in charge of the Autumn Winter 2016/2017 collection. But surprisingly the 3rd March, after the finale, no one showed up. So the big question was, who did this collection ?

Suzy Menkes, the iconic international Vogue editor, wrote an article about why creative force is essential, and how Lanvin’s AW16/17 collection was disappointing. It’s true that the soul of an artist was missing here.

But on Friday the 11th the company revealed the name of the new creative director of the women’s collection of Lanvin: it’s the Haute Couture designer Bouchra Jarrar.

She will start on Monday 14th March, and her first collection is expected to be the Spring and Summer 2017 one.

Bouchra Jarrar is now 45 years old and has graduated from Paris’ Duperré School of Applied Arts in 1994. After 2 years of working for Jean-Paul Gaultier in the jewelry department, the French Moroccan designer joined Balenciaga, and worked with Nicolas Ghesquière for 10 years. She then joined Christian Lacroix’s Haute Couture house, before starting her own Haute Couture line in 2010.

“Bouchra Jarra is a talented and inspired designer. She appeared as an obvious choice for Lanvin. Her timeless style goes along with the style and the values of our fashion house founded by Jeanne Lanvin, more than a century ago,” said Michèle Huiban CEO of Lanvin.

Hopes are high for this new collaboration between an Haute Couture designer and a famous and well-established house like Lanvin. Looking forward to seeing the result in October!
