7 Biggest Fashion Highlights From the 90’s

These days fashion is making a trip  back to the 90’s. The trends in clothes and make up are impossible to avoid. Therefore we want to invite you to have a look back through the memory lane to the biggest fashion moments in a decade dominated by super models, grunge, fictional style icons – and Madonna.

1. Madonna cone bra (1990)

When Madonna showed up for this year’s recent Met Gala, she demonstrated that despite her age of 57, she still is the woman of provocation who can rock spectacular outfits. This experimenting style can be traced back to the start of her career, but especially to 1990, when she made a debut of the pointed cone bra made by Jean Paul Gautier, which will always be an iconic moment in the fashion history.

2. ’Super Models’ (1991)

The 1990s marked the birth of the term ‘supermodel’. Long legged beauties as Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Helena Christensen ruled the catwalk and caught the audience worldwide with their fabulous genes. Iconic fashion spreads, as photographed by Peter Lindbergh for Vogue in 1991 is still used for inspiration in today’s fashion industry.

3. Kate Moss for Calvin Klein Jeans (1992)

The greatest of the supermodels started her career in the 90’s, where she was both criticized for promoting an unhealthy ideal concerning drugs and adored for her rocking, careless attitude. One of the British model’s most memorable moments was the campaign for Calvin Klein, which transformed the 17-year-old Moss from semi-known model to international superstar.

4. Beverly Hills 90210 (1990-2000)

It is impossible to talk about the 90’s without mentioning Beverly Hills 90210. This was a tribute to denim that was omnipresent throughout the show in the form of mom jeans and oversized jackets. The show furthermore inspired the fashion industry with girly trends as baby doll flower printed dresses and the famous scrunchies.

5. Spice Girls (1995)

To express your personality through fashion has never before or after been taken so literally as when the girl group Spice Girls entered the music scene in the mid 90’s. Sporty, Posh, Scary, Baby and Ginger made a statement for individual style with Buffalo’s, shiny dresses and of course the traditional tracksuit from Adidas.

6. Clueless (1995)

Cher Horowitz, played by Alicia Silverstone showed us the strength of dresses from Alaïa and Calvin Klein and that nothing is worse than the things we didn’t buy. Furthermore she made us extremely jealous with her admirable wardrobe that we still dream of today. Clueless is definitely worth watching.

7. Sex and the City (1998)

Two words: Carrie Bradshaw.

It is difficult to imagine how many trends exactly started from Sarah Jessica Parkers character Carrie in the series. Admirable designers as Manolo Blahnik or Jimmy Choo owe her a thank you for really putting then on the fashion map.
