Michelle Obama: The Fashion Chapter

“I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to dress the First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama. Thank you, Michelle, for all of the things you have done for America and for the rest of the world, for the women in the United States and the rest of the world,” stated designer Donatella Versace recently. In fact, with the Obamas leaving the White House soon, there is not only a political power couple leaving, but also an ambitious fashion icon. Over the last seven years Michelle Obama developed a confident style and promoted a healthy, athletic body feeling admired by many.

For official appointments Michelle Obama chose quite a few dresses from less known designers, which proves her interest in the industry: For her husband’s inauguration festivities in 2009 she wore a white, one-shoulder gown from the young and relatively unknown designer Jason Wu, which brought him tremendous success overnight.

In 2014 Obama teamed up with Vogue editor Anna Wintour in order to support design students. This workshop took place in the hallowed halls of the White House, where the students met influencers from the industry.

Recently Vogue.com called Obama “one of American politics’ most visible women. What she wears—no matter how stylish—is front-page news.” They mean what they say: below you can see Michelle Obama’s third Vogue US cover for December 2016.
