India is known for her vibrant culture, colorful and rooted rich heritage with family traditions and values intertwined with each other. When it comes to the Indian fashion scene few designers leave no stone unturned for their creations and amaze the world at large by showcasing the beauty of Indian culture. People from all around the globe are and have appreciated and celebrated works of these great Indian designers.
1) Manish Malhotra
Flagship Store – New Delhi, India
When it comes to Indian fashion designers one cannot unnotice Manish Malhotra. He’s India’s most successful designer in the bridal genre of fashion. He has been in the business for over decades now and is considered as the most influential in the industry. From dressing the most popular Indian actresses and actors to working for production houses for movies – he has done it all.
2) Sabyasachi Mukherjee
Flagship Store – Kolkata, India.
Sabyasachi is a young designer from the East of the country and he is also not new to the Indian fashion business. His design philosophy says that it’s a personalized imperfection of human hand. He pays attention to the textiles he uses for his clothing and is mostly seen working with rural artisans and weavers from remote parts of India. Recently he collaborated with Christian Louboutin and came up with Indian themed shoes for his Couture 2015 collection called ‘Bater’.
3.) Manish Arora.
Flagship Store – Paris, France
Manish Arora is not an unknown name in the Fashion World globally. He’s the only Indian-origin designer to make his mark. And now he’s a regular at Paris Fashion Week and has his flagship store in Paris. The Business of Fashion has placed him on the BOF 500 most influential designers list in 2016 and have placed him on number 7 under the country India list. He has collaborated with brands like MAC Cosmetics, SWAROVSKI, SWATCH for limited edition collections.
4) Bibhu Mohapatra
Flagship Store – New York, USA
An Indian born designer who later moved to New York for his love of fashion. After working with high profile brands including Halston and J. Mendel, Mohapatra set out on his own to launch his own label in 2008 and has gained a name for himself with exquisite evening dresses that flow and flatter the female form. Most recently, his designs have been seen on America’s First Lady Michelle Obama, Jennifer Lopez, Priyanka Chopra, and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Clearly, for the past few decades Indian Designers have taken the Fashion World by storm and they are not ready to stop. A new generation is now entering the scene young designers like Rahul Mishra who won the Woolmark Prize in 2014 at Milan Fashion Week.
