Have you ever wondered how fashion bloggers and social media influencers get that picture perfect photo? I certainly have. I always thought that they had a professional photographer following them around and editing their photos 24/7. But in reality, a majority of the influencers take their own photos and use different applications (usually on their phone) to get that perfect shot.
Below is a list of tips and pointers on how to get that picture perfect shot by yourself.
1. Make yourself taller than you actually are
If you’re on the shorter end of the meter stick, you’re like me… which means you’re short. And short height and photos aren’t always the best of combos if you’re looking for that great photo. Something you can do to create the illusion that you’re taller than you actually are is to stand on your tippy toes while crossing your legs. It sounds stupid and a bit difficult, but after some practice, you’ll be a pro! Also, be mindful of your posture! Watching your posture is great for many reasons which you can read about “here.”
2. Photography tips
Secondly, look up some YouTube videos on some photography tips. They will be a godsend. A lot of photographers are creating their own YouTube channels to help those who want to get into fashion/portrait photography. Reading this article is a great step. Keep going.
3. iPhone can be your budget friendly friend
You don’t need a 1,000€ camera to take good quality photos. Your iPhone can create the same quality with certain editing applications to help you get that professional look. One of my favorite applications is Facetune. If you don’t know about Facetune yet, you’re missing out. This easy to use application lets you edit those portrait photos like a pro without having to learn the (expensive) Adobe Photoshop software. They’ve got face smoothing and detail options as well as some pretty neat filters.
4. Camera lens perfection
Although using an iPhone is a great alternative, having a great camera is probably the best option if you want to get serious as a social media influencer. Personally, I prefer to use a DSLR camera with a 50 mm f/1.8 lens. This gives you remarkably sharp images, with a slightly blurred background, which is perfect for those wardrobe shots. The only issue you may have is the lack of zoom. So you’ll need to work that creative brain of yours and figure out which composition works best with you!
5. NATURAL LIGHTTTT
I cannot stress this enough. You don’t need a studio to create great photos. Natural light is your best friend and it is there to help you get that perfect shot. Go outdoors and take some test shots. Do this with a friend and see how the photos come out. It’s all about experimenting at first. In the end, you will succeed.
With a few photography tips, you can create a great photo with even the ugliest of backgrounds. If you want to learn more about photography tips with natural lighting, watch this Youtube video below by Jessica Whitaker. This girl knows what’s going on.
