Filipinos Take Paris Fashion Week

Counting down the days till Paris Fashion Week, we are expected to see new faces to hit the runway, VIP clients from Asia sitting front row and up-and-coming designers to set their showroom studio, none other than in one of the fashion capital cities of the world.

As a proud Filipino, I am more than thrilled to see my fellow countrymen taking the fashion world by storm – on and off the runway. Let me introduce three of my favorites.

  1. Hye Won Jang (@noweyh)

The Beauty and Brains of the Runway. Hye Won, a Filpino-Korean model graduated from Management Engineering at one of the top universities in the Philippines while working with her local organization PMAP (Professional Model Association of the Philippines). She moved to New York over a year ago to build her career on the international stage and has been signed with VNY Models. Hye Won recently made her runway debut at NYFW and even opened the show for Christian Cowan.

      2. Heart Evangelista (@IamHeartE)

Love Marie Ongpauco aka Heart has been in countless local films and television series. But it was not her talent onscreen that caught the attention of fashion designers and houses alike but her artwork on a very unique canvas – Hermés Birkin Bags. Initially, this was a passion project of hers that eventually grew and clients would commission her to illustrate on their own bags. In 2016, she had her very first handbag exhibition in Manila. Heart has now become a VIP guest in numerous shows for Paris Fashion Week.

3. DeLustico by Dennis Lustico (@de_lustico)

Dennis Lustico, originally a registered nurse and a triathlete with a passion for fashion, has been showing his collections in Paris for the last few seasons. Being able to showcase Filipino designs while catering to an international audience is an achievement for him and for the country. His loud and flamboyant creations caught the eye of the Middle Eastern, European and Northern American markets.
